Benefits of Leasing a Car Online on a Transferable Driving License in the UAE
When Miriam’s parents visited her from Germany during the Dubai Shopping Festival, they leased a car online. “I wasn’t tensed that they were getting bored while I was at work,” she says. It also saved her from being the chauffeur in the evenings, once she got done from work.
Miriam says that having their own set of wheels freed up her parents to explore the UAE. “They had to adjust to new roads for the first couple of hours, but soon enough they were confident driving around and took me to places that I didn’t even know existed!” she says.
It saved money and gave them freedom to explore the UAE. While visiting destinations such as theme parks, the Global Village and Al Qudra Lakes, they were free from the worry of having to book a cab.
“Having a car was particularly useful when they made the day trip to Abu Dhabi and took in all the sights, since we were not sure how a return trip would work,” Miriam says.
A word of advice is to spend a day familiarizing yourself with your surroundings. Check the rules of the road before taking off long distance on Sheikh Zayed Road. Take a look at traffic fines and what is ideal driving behavior.
Now that she has experienced the convenience of self-drive, Miriam plans to hire a vehicle when she goes traveling. “I’m due to go to Canada for a friend’s wedding and I am planning to drive while I’m there.”
Requirements of IDP for UAE Issued Licenses:
With a UAE-issued license, driving in Canada should be no problem for Miriam, since Canada is one of the 50 countries that permit UAE driving license holders to drive. In addition to the GCC countries, others include the US, UK, China, Singapore, South Africa and several European countries.
If you’re traveling to any other place, get yourself an IDP. Make a folder with a copy of your Emirates ID, passport, residency visa, your UAE license and two photographs. If you have all the documents ready, walk in to either the Automobile and Touring Club of UAE (ATCUAE), RTA offices, Emirates Post offices, Dnata on Sheikh Zayed Road or affiliate members of ATCUAE and walk out with your IDP within minutes.
